In brief, Warner Bros. has continued to drain the poetry, fantasy, and comedy out of Tim Burton’s original conception for “Batman” (1989), completing the job of coarsening the material into hyperviolent summer action spectacle.
-New Yorker review of The Dark Knight

...what? burton's original batman sucked and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. when was the last time you watched the '89 Batman? that movie aged about as well as a carton of milk; keaton's acting was a joke, the story was ruined, and if i wanted to see a "silly" joker i'd rather watch cesar romero. i mean, poetry and fantasy? did we watch the same movie?
